Xiaoshu is one of the beneficiaries of screening for hereditary metabolic diseases in newborns. Infants and young children are the beginning of the whole life cycle. Prenatal screening, neonatal genetic metabolic disease screening and neonatal hearing screening are all key links in the prevention and control of birth defects. Through screening, the occurrence of some genetic diseases and birth defects can be reduced and the quality of the birth population can be effectively improved. To this end, Chongqing has built 6 prenatal diagnosis institutions, 133 prenatal screening institutions, 3 screening centers for neonatal genetic and metabolic diseases and 1 management unit for neonatal hearing screening. At the same time, Chongqing has also set up a medical quality control center for prenatal screening and diagnosis, which organizes special technical training and expert technical guidance every year to ensure the screening quality, and the incidence of severely disabled birth defects has been controlled below 10‰ for many years.

In terms of women’s health, cervical cancer and breast cancer (hereinafter referred to as "two cancers") are usually called "the first killer" threatening women’s health. In the early stage of "two cancers", early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment, the cure rate is close to 100%. In 2021, the city included the "two cancers" project in one of the 15 key livelihood issues in Chongqing, and completed a total of 759,100 women’s "two cancers" free examinations, achieving full coverage of the inspection areas and counties and urban and rural women, effectively ensuring women’s health.

According to the data provided by the Women and Children’s Office of the Municipal Health and Wellness Committee, by the end of 2021, the city’s prenatal screening rate was 89.13%, the neonatal genetic metabolic disease screening rate was 99.06%, the neonatal hearing screening rate was 95.79%, and the health management rate of children under 7 years old was 93.92%. The coverage rate of cervical cancer screening among rural school-age women in counties has reached 100%, and all the data have been higher than that proposed in the "Healthy China Action" in 2030.

However, under the influence of macro-factors that the economic environment is improving, the promotion of maternal and child health in Chongqing still has reference significance. Promote coordinated regional development

Although the trend of maternal and child health promotion in Chongqing is improving, there are differences between urban and rural areas and regions.

As one of the four municipalities directly under the Central Government, Chongqing integrates big cities, large rural areas, large reservoir areas and large mountainous areas. In 2020, the urbanization rate is only 69.5%, and the development between urban and rural areas is quite different, which has a certain impact on the health status of women and children.
